Rick's eulogy: Today is a celebration of Mom’s life. Some people come into our lives and quickly go. And some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same. That was and is my Mom. Mom was truly an adventurer. If given the choice between the path much traveled or the path less traveled, Mom would always choose the path less traveled. It didn’t matter where we were or what time it was, Mom always took time to smell the roses. And believe me we stopped many times to smell those roses. Whether it was going through the hills of Montecito trying to find Oprah’s house or hanging out on the Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey eating clam chowder and drinking margaritas; Mom was always a blast to be around. At times it was like having Lucille Ball for a mother. She loved all of you and would do anything for anyone of you, even if it killed the rest of us to get it done. I know that the void that we feel, that Mom would be challenging us to fill it with joy and the memories we had together. Mom was always known for being a fantastic coordinator. And I bet up in Heaven they must have a pretty awesome Easter brunch. I think God needed some help putting it all together so He called on the best organizer He could find, my Mom Pat. Mom once said that she wanted to live forever. Mom, I promise you that you will live forever through our family and all your friends, through the treasured memories we all have, and because today you are looking down from Heaven. So you will live forever. I remember as a kid driving with Mom and Dad on different trips and looking out the window at night and seeing the millions of stars in the sky. Well Cheryl, our kids, and I had the International Star Registry redesignate a star right above the Big Dipper, it’s new name is Patricia Ann Beck. So when we look into the night’s sky we can see a symbol for Mom. Well to make a long story short… (that one’s for you Mom) My mom wasn’t just my mother; she was one of my best friends. And I know I will see her again someday. If you could hear mom speaking, she would say: Until we meet again You will always be my friend Don't you cry or wonder why Until we meet again I am going to leave you for awhile So turn your frown into a smile Until we meet again I'll only be gone for a little while So no goodbye's forever Until we meet again I love you Mom
